Student Eagle Scout Project Gives Fine Arts Courtyard a New Look!

Submission from Lakeside Community Member, Karen Eisele Leff:

Lakeside HS Sophmore, Harry Leff, decided the courtyard and hillside in front of the Fine Arts building needed a ‘new’ look and tackled the challenge as his Eagle Scout Project for Troop 77. Leff, 15-years old, raised close to $2,000 to cover the cost of the more 30 plants scheduled to be installed.

Phase one of the project, done this past weekend with a handful of student and scout volunteers, involved planting three large native, crepe myrtles, as well as almost 20 bushes. Phase two, set to take place in March, will complete the landscaping with the installation of more flowering bushes on the hillside and some flowering perennials.

Lakeside family-owned, Brannon & Co. Landscape Design and Installation (www.brannonlandscaping.com), donated their expertise, time and heavy equipment to help bore the massive holes needed for the large trees.

Special thanks to the Lakeside Foundation and local families and friends who donated money for the purchase of the plants, and to Principal Bounds for his support of the project.
